The protection level of body armor is mainly based on the NIJ standard, and is divided into six levels, from low to high, namely, Level I, Level IIA, Level II, Level IIIA, Level III and Level IV.
Class I: capable of withstanding .22LR bare lead bullets with a muzzle velocity of approximately 308 to 332 meters per second and .38Special fully armored bullets with a muzzle velocity of approximately 244 to 274 meters per second. Class IIA: capable of withstanding 9mm Parabellum fully armored rounds with muzzle velocities of approximately 320 to 344 m/s and .357mm Magnum soft tip rounds with muzzle velocities of approximately 366 to 396 m/s. Grade II: capable of withstanding 9mm Parabellum fully armored rounds with a muzzle velocity of approximately 346 to 376 m/s and .357mm Magnum soft-tip rounds with a muzzle velocity of approximately 410 to 440 m/s. Class IIIA: capable of withstanding .44 Magnum hollow point rounds with a muzzle velocity of approximately 411 to 442 m/s and 9mm Parabellum fully armored rounds of the same velocity. Class III: capable of withstanding 7.62mm fully armored rounds with a muzzle velocity of approximately 823 to 853 m/s. Grade IV: capable of withstanding .30-06 armor-piercing rounds with an initial velocity of approximately 853 to 884 m/s, demonstrating excellent protective performance. Different grades of body armor also differ in material and protection capabilities. body armor below grade I is soft, mainly using high-performance fibers such as Kevlar and other materials, suitable for lightweight and flexible use of the demand. Level III and above are hard body armor, using metal, ceramics and other high-hardness materials, suitable for occasions that require higher protection.
